# Andi's bots

Andi (andiai.com) is a search engine. Three names show up in server logs. **Andi-SearchBot** indexes pages for search. **AndiFeedBot** reads publishers' news feeds and news sitemaps for Andi's news — a special case of Andi-SearchBot, the way Googlebot-News is of Googlebot. **Andi-User** fetches a page when someone searching on Andi asks for it.

## How they identify themselves

- AndiFeedBot: `AndiFeedBot/1.0 (+https://andiai.com/bot)`
- Andi-User: `Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; Andi-User/1.0; +https://andiai.com/bot) Chrome/W.X.Y.Z Safari/537.36`

`W.X.Y.Z` is a current Chrome version. Short forms — `Andi-SearchBot/1.0 (+https://andiai.com/bot)` and `Andi-User/1.0 (+https://andiai.com/bot)` — appear on API and feed requests (for example, a Wikipedia summary fetched for a person). Andi-SearchBot and Andi-User also send a `From: hello+publishers@andiai.com` header on page fetches. A robots.txt rule only needs the name: `User-agent: Andi-SearchBot`.

## Rules we follow

A rule for AndiFeedBot applies to feed reading only; otherwise Andi-SearchBot's rules apply. **AndiBot** was the name of Andi's original assistant. A rule for it applies to Andi's AI answers, not to search.

For search indexing, Andi-SearchBot obeys robots.txt rules that name it and `noindex` tags: a page excluded by either stays out of Andi's search index.

We never train AI models on publisher content.

We record each publisher's stated preferences for how its content may be used, and pass them through our API so that services built on Andi's search can respect them. Andi does too.
